musical theatre camp

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Instructors:

Sarah Beth Mosely

Professional actor, singer, and director Sarah Beth graduated from Newnan High School and Valdosta State University with a degree in Musical Theatre. She is currently a resident puppeteer at The Centre for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and a performer / educator with The Atlanta Shakespeare Company.

 

Scott Ondovchik

Scott is the Theatre Director at East Coweta High School. He graduated from the University of West Georgia with a BA in English, and a Master’s Degree and a Specialist Degree in Education. He has worked with The Nixon Centre’s STAR program for the past six years.

Nixon Centre Art Camps

Time: 9 a.m. to Noon

 

Elementary Art Camp

 

Taught by Heather Corley, Daniel Niwa, and Alyssa Hale, Certified CCSS Art Teachers at Newnan High School with a combination of 49 years of K-12 teaching experience.

During this summer camp, campers will explore materials and ideas with a focus on nature. We will get out and explore the nature trails, collect materials, study artists, and create artwork that gets the kids thinking about the outdoors and all that nature has to offer.

 

Middle School Art Camp

 

Week 1 taught by Chad Loftin.

Chad has taught Art in Coweta County at Evans Middle School for seventeen years. He earned his bachelors and master’s degree from the University of West Georgia in the area of Art Education with a focus in Painting and Printmaking.

The first Summer Art camp for Middle School students will focus on the theme and concept of “Magnifying Nature.” Through various projects, both individually and collaboratively, students will explore how artists have stood in awe of nature.

Week 2 taught by Jodie Hobbs.

Jodie is a veteran art educator with 34 years of public-school experience in Coweta & Fulton Counties. She has led art camps here at the Centre for over 18 years.

The second Summer Art camp for Middle School students is focusing on the works of Yayoi Kusama, Kehinde Wiley and Frida Kahlo. Student artists will explore techniques in painting and mixed media.

 

High School Art Camp

 

Taught by Susan Krause.

 

Susan is a talented and accomplished professional artist, has a master’s degree in art from Yale University, and is a 30 year veteran in art education at the college level. Susan has held 100's of diverse, fun and skill building workshops for all ages and has given talks and demonstrations all over the world.

During this session, high school artists will explore value through black and white media, ink, cut-out, graphite, charcoal and ink wash developing three portfolio pieces, white learning essential tricks to create strong designs and expressive drawings influenced from life and from a model. Students are invited and encouraged to bring prior middle school and high school art work for review during a critique mid-week, aimed at strengthening the students' portfolio for college admittance and scholarship.
